Mafia activity has been known to exist in Australia’s southern states for decades. Many however would not know that in the 1920s and 1930s Queensland had its very own Mafia. Known as the Black Hand they were every bit as dangerous as their southern counterparts. This group of migrant Italian cane field workers was full of extortionists, thieves, pimps, rapists and cold-blooded murderers. Four of these men would end up in Boggo Road Gaol.

W.A man Arrested in Germany During Mafia Investigation
Domenico Condo is a 38 year old male suspect arrested as part of an investigation by Italian police into mafia drug trafficking that spans Germany, Belgium and Italy. He was allegedly in possession of a quantity of drugs, and is described as having been born in the inner Perth suburb of Mt Lawley, with a number of warrants out for his arrest in Australia.
Joe Barbaro’s daughter
This happened while I was away last year. Joe’s father (the child’s paternal grandfather) was Little Trees Barbaro, and her half-brother Pasquale was the one shot dead in Sydney. The Pasquale in jail for the record ecstasy bust is her uncle, Joe’s brother, IIRC.
Hope everything turned out alright for them, I can’t imagine how scary such a thing could be.
